Why WBFS instead of FAT

Why not use FAT to store backups? Just dump the raw disc in a file (well, a directory of several 2GB files) and then read it as a logical partition.

FAT is compatible with any platform. It is simple and proven. There are tools to correct/recover corrupted file/partition (think of power failure...).
